Polyethylene plastics are divided into different types according to density:
HDPE(high-density polyethylene)
this type of polyethylene plastic is strong and high density, producing relatively rigid plastic with a crystalline structure. The polymer chains in HDPE are more linear and closer together resulting in increased intermolecular forces and greater tensile strength. It is good to know that when there is no branch in the molecule it is called linear polyethylene.
Products and commodities made of HDPE, Due to their good features such as high resistance to corrosion and wear, reasonable price, recyclability are commonly used. long life of more than 40 years and other good features have been able to meet most needs of various sectors of industry including agriculture and horticulture, construction and telecommunications.
It is also predicted that in 2021, heavy polyethylene plastic will account for about 46% of total polyethylene consumption by about 56 million tonnes.
LDPE(low-density polyethylene)
Low-density polyethylene plastic (LDPE), provides a very flexible material with unique features, LDPE polymer chains have more side branches than HDPE.
which is a plastic, provides easy softening and flexibility. This will reduce its tensile strength. however, this kind of thermoplastic is easily formable.
The ethylene molecules in the LDPE are bound together in a very random manner and thus will form very irregularly.
